Washington State DCU Selects SCA to Deliver IT Examinations
CLEARWATER, FL (December 17, 2015) — Security Compliance Associates (SCA) is pleased to announce that the company has recently been awarded as the primary vendor to assist in the completion of IT examinations for credit unions regulated by the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions, Division of Credit Unions. Examinations will be performed from November 2015 through June 2017.
SCA has been awarded the 20-month contract through a state contracts bid process that included eight competitive organizations, including SCA. “We are thrilled to be named the primary vendor and to assist the Credit Union Division in their IT examination program. As an industry leader and elite service provider in the credit union market for more than 15 years, servicing approximately 200 credit unions in 40 states, we look forward to delivering world-class information security and cybersecurity risk assessments, and to enhance the Department of Financial Institutions IT exam program,” said Jim Brahm, SCA’s Managing Director and CEO.
SCA will work with the Department of Financial Institutions to enhance its IT examination process, which may include discussions with Washington state chartered credit unions about cybersecurity tools, IT risks, and IT infrastructure. “Our recent opening of a Washington State office supports SCA’s expansion initiatives, improves our west coast presence, and enhances our abilities to deliver exceptional security assessment services,” commented Brahm. There has been a marked increase in the volume and the sophistication of cyber threats, and the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) has developed the Cybersecurity Assessment Tool to assist financial institutions in identifying their IT security risks and evaluating their cybersecurity readiness. While this tool is optional for credit unions to use, beginning in January 2016, both SCA engineers and Division IT examiners will be reviewing the assessment documents to ensure that the credit union’s management is knowledgeable about cybersecurity policies and procedures.
Glenn Ross, IT examiner for the Division of Credit Unions states, “We are pleased to be working with SCA to enhance the Division of Credit Unions IT examination program and to increase our effectiveness in helping credit unions further develop their IT security programs.”
